This wine is dessert in a bottle - a very sophisticated dessert. It's a perfect chocolate and cheese matcher, but fundamentally, a great alternative to Port. We find it makes a delightful Holiday present. And in Australia, we often pair this with Sticky Date or Christmas Pudding.
It's a fortified Durif (referred to as Petit Syrah in the US) made in a similar way to vintage port. Its often compared to the Banyuls (French) style wine. This sweetish red dessert wine shows a clean palate (not cloying) and lower than expected alcohol, in keeping balance with Durif grapes harvested around 14Be. Rather than picking fruit later for ripe characters, freshness of fruit flavor and red berry profile is key. The sweetness in the wine is natural and a neutral spirit used to fortify.
